Hello! My name is Helki and I'm the owner and Chief Sausage Engineer (CSE) of Zeigler's Sausages.
I have many hobbies, but my two passions in life are travel and food. I’ve been fortunate enough to eat my way through a lot of beautiful countries and their cities; Italy, Germany, France, Holland, Thailand, and Vietnam to name a few. I find that food is the best way to truly experience one’s culture: the spices, ingredients, environment and method of preparation all work together to tell a diverse story of who we really are.
I've been a senior level marketing executive for more than 15 years, most recently at a software organization. For a long time now, I've felt bound to a life that was compromised. Uninspired. Boring. So…I decided it was time to hang up my corporate hat to pursue my passion in food.
Well, why not? I grew up in the business and learned from the best - my parents were the founders/owners of Distinctive Sausages by Zeigler, based out of Seattle, WA. What started out as a hobby eventually turned into a very successful side business for my folks, Tony and Carol Zeigler. (My dad was mentored by Rytek Kutas, who is the well-known author of what many consider to be the "bible" of sausage making). Unfortunately, with full time jobs, parental duties, and the everyday hustle and bustle of life, they just didn't have the bandwidth to grow the business to its full potential.
That's where I come in. More than 20 years later, I've left a very successful career to pick up where my folks left off. I love to cook for my friends and family, and as it happens, I also have a passion for making (and eating) delicious sausage. My friends and family love my sausages too, and their joy in eating something I have prepared never fails to fill me with a sense of love and accomplishment.
What IS a Zeigler's Sausage?
A Zeigler's Sausage is a trip down memory lane. It's the sausage your parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents grew up with: handcrafted with fresh ingredients and made from real meat (no scraps or unidentified objects). Purchased right around the corner at the local butcher/sausage shop from purveyors who were well honed in their craft, and put those extra ingredients of quality, love and pride - along with a sprinkle of tradition - into everything they did.
I ♥ Real Sausage
I'm starting a movement and it's called the "I ♥ Real Sausage" movement. With proven recipes and locally sourced ingredients in hand – I'm bringing Zeigler's Sausages to the masses, starting with local Farmer's Markets in the Southern California area.
